ScvO2 monitoring can be super helpful to identify how a patient is utilizing oxygen. ScvO2 stands for saturation of central venous oxygen & is a surrogate to SvO2 which can only be obtained from a PA Catheter. In general, we like to see the ScvO2 > 70%, but less than 85% or so. If the ScvO2 is low, you have to ask if it’s a delivery issue (DO2), consumption issue (VO2) or is it both? Things that may improve DO2 include giving a + inotrope, administering fluid, improving overall oxygenation with
