She climbed with her husband, Sergei, but the attempt quickly turned deadly. On the way down from the summit, Francys developed severe altitude sickness and frostbite. She collapsed at over 8,000 meters, unable to move on her own. Sergei tried to bring her down but was forced to leave her temporarily to collect oxygen bottles. When he
