The flames at the Boyle Heights cold-storage warehouse reached an ammonia line, which started off-gassing and led to several small explosions, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Thick black smoke returned to the Boyle Heights warehouse on Friday as the Los Angeles Fire Department continues its multi-day operation to douse the flames deep inside the 500,000-square-foot building.

People who live nearby are bracing for a third night of the persistent smoke.
