I used to have a Carver 350x2 bridgeable to 700 into 4 ohms for the home. Unfortunately somebody stole it. I paid $550 at Circuit City. Carver is now out of business so i dont know what you could do.

It could pop with a less powerful amp. I think a lot of people who have concerns about this sort of thing make use of voltage limiters. If you're using p.a. equipment, you may already have a limiter.
